Well I’ll admit writing a blog on my progress for my FMP hasn’t started from the beginning, this starting post will catch up with what has happened thus far and from then on; weekly posts will occur.
Catching up goes a long way back to before we broke off for the summer break last year, at that time my original idea was a social networking site solely aimed at the huge variety of developers on all formats. That idea ran into a immediate hurdle when one of our Tutors expressed his opinion that, that idea has already been done before and thus didn’t hit the “original” theme that forms part of the basis on which we model our ideas.
This wasn’t a huge hurdle in all fairness, after some time the idea wained on me and I felt the subject matter would not keep my enthusiasm going all the way through the year.
The main challenge then was to find a new concept idea, one that was original and exciting. My next idea was a play on the moonpig.com website and service. Having seen the Moonpig adverts; like many of us, I wasn’t aware they offered an online calendar reminder service that would alert you of upcoming events that you could enter on your profile and also alert you via email/text.
So onto a new idea, feeling frustrated at the task of thinking something original and exciting, I finally came up with my current idea that is being worked on. This idea is a website themed on all types of media (film, book, music, TV, games) in which users rate and review what they like/have seen.
There will be a social networking side to this site also, User will be able to create a profile, add friends, those friends will be able to see the aforementioned reviews & ratings and comment and rate for themselves, be able to change the position of the layout, so if they enjoy music more than, say books? that section can be moved to the top, mimicking www.bbc.co.uk front page.
The next post will bring us up to date with in week #2 and what has changed or added in that time.
